More bleeding edge RF stuff from France

Violet offers consumer home RFID read/write
Wednesday, 19 November 2008, 12:21

A COMPLETE RFID tag reading and creation system has just been launched by the French company, Violet. Called the Mirror (Mir:ror), it would enable naughty persons to read data from RFID tags that the owners thought were private.

Of course that's not the main objective with the Mirror. The whole point is to have some fun which, if you see the little rabbit shaped readers which the company supplies, you'll get what we mean.

Nonetheless, the software runs on both Macs and PCs and the package comes complete with three blank RFID tags which Violet calls Ztamps (a play on the word postage 'stamp').

With the Mirror it should be possible for you to associate the data held on the tag/Ztamp with a particular application. So create a URL on a Ztamp and stick it on an umbrella. When the Mirror reads the tag, it immediately triggers a weather forecast on the screen.

The whole thing isn't that expensive and should retail at around £37 with a packet of 12 extra Ztamps costing £15.

Incidentally, Violet is the same company which offered the bizarre rabbit shaped Nabaztag. The Mirror can be purchased online here .
