BNP members exposed online
DUE TO THE actions of a disgruntled ex-British National Party member, the entire database of BNP supporters has been posted on the internet.
For some this won’t mean an awful lot, however for other members this distinct identification will put BNP supporters in a position where they could face vilification, disciplinary action or even lose their jobs.
Somewhere in the region of 13,500 names and home addresses were posted on a website late on Monday evening – in some cases the job description, phone numbers and personal email addresses of those named was also listed.
Among the occupations listed were solicitors, ministers of religion, school teachers and even police officers – who are actually not allowed to be BNP members by law.
Some of those named were previous members who have left the party. Others simply those who had shown interest in joining in the past, but had not necessarily taken this interest any further.
BNP spokesman Simon Darby said last night that the police had been called in to investigate this serious breach in data security. He described the act as " malevolent and spiteful," continuing, "this isn't a question of us mislaying the information, this is theft."
What’s even more shocking is that the list also revealed the names of children who are listed as members, simply because their parents had taken out a family memberships.
One police officer's name has the note, "Discretion required re employment concerns - police officer", alongside the names and ages of her children.
Other names also had notes alongside explaining the job title and why discretion was required.
The BNP is renowned for purposefully concealing the identities of its members – details are held by officials in documents which can only be opened by those with a password.
The party says that only a handful of officials had access to this kind of information, meaning that the perpetrator must have been a member at some point.
Nick Griffin, the BNP’s leader confirmed on the party's website that most of the list was indeed genuine, containing data that was stored at some point between November 30 and December 2 last year.
"This latest attack is not really directed against our own people, who are already tough-minded and know that nothing ever comes of this sort of bluster, so much as against the thousands of [members of the UK Independence party] who are thinking of joining us.
He continued that this attack may frighten some of them off, but it was “water off a ducks back” to the hardy members of the British National Party.
Internet chat room posts were laced with venom last night. One such comment states, "The most shocking thing is some of the comments by the names! God help anyone who is in the army, the prison service, healthcare, a police officer or a teacher."
The information commissioner, who enforces the Data Protection Act, is expected to investigate the matter.
On a much lighter note it was amusing to find that one member left the party as he, "Objects to being told he shouldn't wear a bomber jacket." µ

Thanks for this proper write-up. You put the national TV news shows to shame :-) The undemocratic suppression of Nationalists that's going on everywhere in Europe is disgusting. Being a Nationalist is not the same as being a nazi, fascist or racist. Just like being a left-wing liberal hippie is not the same as being a marxist, fascist or communist.
This is the real british people, the raceist, dumb, ignorant and drunk, unhealthy over-weight people. They are not some isolated retards, some of these people have big jobs like police man. People have being saying the police were raceist, and there you have the prove. It's a good thing there are not many supporters of this group and the majority of british people are not nazis...yet. But this could easily change. Probably why i invest in other countries instead of all the eggs in one basket.. Imagine one day the bnp ruling the country, they will start a war on the ethnic minority... Hope they at least include the jews with my type (blacks). Then the world might become a little better - only after these nazis are destroyed by the jews with barak obama and the US armies. That would mean the gypsies will also be included.. lifes too short anyway, only wish the raceist nazies will see it one day. Come on gays are a different subject and for another day. Nationalism's a weighty and controversial issue of self determination and the fragmentation of societies. Look at e.g. the Scottish National Party for a party that are nationalist, be that a good or bad thing. The BNP aren't a nationalist party - they don't stand for Britain, they stand for white and racist, heterosexual and homophobic, pseudo-Christian religious hatred Britain. That's not the nation I was born in.
Having been sent a link for the list, I was curious to see the number of Police who were members. A search for the world "police" (case insensitve) resulted in a total of one. With the word "Retired" next to it.
