IF LIKE US you’re pretty fed up with the way system maintenance apps dump on the 64-bit Windows user, you’ll appreciate a bit of good news.
Iolo (eye-oh-low), those nice American chaps who make System Mechanic - a reviewer’s fave – will be churning out a 64-bit version of the flagship app just in time for Christmas. We reckon it’s the holiday season that’s encroaching and they're feeling so warm inside they’re flogging the 64-bit version at the same price as the 32-bit version.
Officially, this will be version 8.5 of System Mechanic, but you will be able to upgrade from 8.0 to 8.5 at no added cost. That’s expected, though, as it is basically a subscription-based application, much like your run-of-the-mill anti-virus.
For those who don’t know any better, System Mechanic is an all-in-one system utility suite that keeps your Windows purring along at little to no user effort. It repairs, corrects and otherwise speeds-up your Windows install.
It won’t un-break Vista, but it’ll do a good job at removing a few rubbish system settings and eliminate chronic nags (‘cept dandruff).
Should reach the web-store later this month. µ
There is another much better utility available. Macecraft - jv16 PowerTools http://www.macecraft.com/jv16powertools2008
It was Summer 2003 & AMD Announced 64 bit CPU, Which was Available in Fall'3. Sch. for Dresden Plant, Dresden has already Come & Gone & Still, Baby Keeps On. Yet, 64 bit parts are FINALLY Coming to Fruitation. Maybe Memory Makers Should Hail AMD or Perhaps NOT, yet its' improved view & better. 5 years is long time to fill in all those gaps, Whats next: 2 bill.ion trany unit? Oh, My Gosh...its' already here, So 64 Bit, Finally, Welcome. Drashek
Vista Lite has been out for a long time now and it does all that stuff.
Well yeah, this is news for System Mechanic fans, but actually maintenance software from other companies, Auslogics for example, supports both 32 and 64bit no problem. So, overall, this is not great news.
I have tried System Mechanic twice on two different machines and both those times it really messed my machine up. Both systems became unstable and needed Windows XP to be reinstalled.
Well I've been haranguing Iolo about this for years, and it appears they've finally managed it (got an email saying, in effect, thatonly this year have 64-bit PCs become mainstream)! I upgraded str8 away only to find that 2 major parts of the suite, the AV and Firewall are still, you guessed it, 32-bit only and were grayed out in the install box. So a bit premature to claim 64-bit goodness don't you think? Not impressed :-(
